Camped (primitive) in Manti-LaSal NF a couple of times. Drove past Mt. Picacho nearly 40 times, but always in a hurry, driving my Mom from San Diego to Tucson and back every Christmas over a 20-year period, so I never stopped.

Never camped at Cedar Mesa. Odd; I never noticed a campground there, and I have driven several times from Boulder across the Burr Trail (with detours along other dirt roads in the G. Staircase/Escalante NM), then up the Notom Road into the paved part of Capitol Reef. My go-to campground in that area is on the Burr Trail, about 5 miles east of Boulder. It used to be $1.00 self-pay, administered by BLM before Clinton made GS/E into a Nat'l Monument.

Grand Staircase/Escalante is a favorite of mine, but the Rockies and the SW desert have too many great places to count.

Now that I am retiring, I will extend my three-week western trips to six- and eight-week trips, and maybe stretch all my Christmas visits to Tucson to four-week road trips rather than the week-and-a-half plane trips I have been doing.

-R
