Richard,

Shoot me an email sometime. I keep thinking of oddball cool stuff along your possible route.

To wit, Picacho State Park, just off I-10 between Tucson and Phoenix. Crappy car camping, but a mind boggling hike to the top vista. Google that too, and the history.

SPAM: There are so many obscure and wonderful places in the west. The Manti La Salles outside Arches for high elevation aspen lake environs fleeing the desert floor, Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada, Cedar Mesa below the waterfold pocket in Capitol Reef and other special weirdo stuff everywhere.
