Utah's 9 Mile Canyon should be on your list when you decide you'd like to see so many petroglyphs that you decide they're boring.

It's not down south with the Grand Tour parks, but about midway up near the Colorado / Utah border.


Cedar Breaks is smaller but arguably on par with Bryce, just lesser known. Valley of the Gods is a toned down Monument Valley with 1/100 as many people. Other good Utah stops (for when you're on way to/from Tucson).

You can also start applying for Arizona's Salt River in late March / early April. At low water levels, it's a pleasant 3 to 5 day trip. At higher waters, it's more, um, concerning.
