Be sure to get in touch with the Benscreek Canoe Club if you wind up in the Jonestown area. They do club trips and sponsor the annual Stonycreek River festival.
Too bad you didn't do any boating in the Carolina foothills; there's a good group down there known as the Foothills Paddling Club.
I'm no longer in Maryland, either, but unlike you, I hope and plan never to move back north. Socially and aesthetically, I'll always be a Yankee, but I've been too spoiled by the weather down here to go back.
