First time over that drop is intimidating for a paddler that is at the edge of his/her comfort zone. The line is obvious from the shore, then easy to lose once you're back in your boat....especially at higher water (which the level looked medium high by the recommended flows on AW and the MD guidebook. My video broke up, so it may have been mentioned and I missed it. In the panic of losing your line, I could see her forgeting to boof. Heck, I know a bunch of paddlers that have terrible boofs that run the UY. It's not required if you hit the flake. It auto-boofs you. Still, she was close to getting caught in the re-circ.
Overall...the mix of boat-cams, helmet-cams, shore-cams, interviews, and detailed decriptions of the runs is excellent. I love the paddlesnake series. This clip takes that to the next level..greater detail on options and how to paddle the rapid and personal thoughts/feelings of paddlers of different skill levels. We should have more videos like this.
A couple of notes on Swallow Falls.... If you cheat too far right on the entrance you can hit the VW rock on bottom right. The pillow will probably flip you and you'll be scraping your face on rocks for about 50 feet (seen it done). You can also go further left than Shannon run, but you go over a couple of 3' clappers and land hard on your bottom. Could break a boat or hurt your back. I've seen this done as well and listened to the victim complain for a while. All in all, it's easier than it looks....just don't flip. If ever there was a one move pony, with a big fun payoff, Swallow is it. Definitely one of my favorites!
Awesome clip...thanks again....
