I believe its named more so for its ability to cause things to disappear

Because its really only the convergence of the Fishladder and the main Potomac flow

But, at levels of 3.0 and below, it causes people who want to disappear to get their wishes...and at higher levels (think 5ft+), it makes things disappear against their wishes (S-turn too)
