Park Closures

Delete this post Submitted by b brown on 20/Jan/2018

Dear Park Volunteers,

As you may have heard there is now a lapse in appropriated funds for the federal government. This lapse will impact the C&O Canal National Historical Park by forcing us to close visitor facilities at the national park. This email notifies you that these facilities are closing. As volunteers you are considered staff. Under no circumstance are you to volunteer during this closure. This includes wearing any part of the volunteer uniform or using a radio or any other NPS-owned technology or equipment. Until appropriations are restored heated restrooms and visitor centers among other facilities, will be secured and unavailable for use.

Maintenance staff is now in the process of securing the park’s assets. During the shutdown I will be furloughed and only our law enforcement staff will remain on duty. Chief Ranger Ed Wenschhof will serve as Acting Superintendent.

We apologize for any inconveniences and appreciate your continued support. Thank you again for all of your support through this difficult time.
