a raft trip or get a friend to take you down in a shredder. That will give you a good idea of whether you want to try in a hard boat.
One guideline is: how comfortable are you on the LG? Can you play the rapids or merely run them? Especially, the 2 hardest rapids: Koontz Flume and PSH. Remember, the UG is much steeper and narrower than the LG. Also, how comfortable are you on the UY? If you feel like you get pushed around on the UY, you probably don't want to run the UG.
