With your qualification of "not too complicated or brutal" I'd say hike up from Mason's Branch to Sweets Falls.
There's an abandoned railroad grade on river left below the Meadow River that goes to the tunnel at Koontz bend, but that's probably too complicated for most to find.

From Carnifax Ferry battlefield the hike down to Lost Paddle is mostly jeep road, so it's not to brutal, but you'll have to bushwhack a little bit to get to views of the rapids. The hike into Pillow Rock is steep.
