The hike down from Carnifax Ferry to Pillow Rock is a nightmare...it took me and a friend a good 30 minutes of bushwhacking to get anywhere near the river, since the trail that used to be there has eroded and trees have fallen over it. I know there is a jeep trail that ends right where the Meadow meets the Gauley above Lost Paddle, but it'd take a pretty long time to get from there to anywhere along Lost Paddle, and you'd have to swim across the Meadow.

If you want to see low-water video of it, go here: http://www.gauleyriverrapids.com/ They have some links to 300cfs runs of the major rapids.

You can scout most everything when you are paddling downstream...but as a hiker its basically impossible as far as I know
