Hmmm... I guess it depends what you are looking for, I got my Axiom 8.5 for when I (or a guest) am too fat to reasonably paddle my Kendo Starlight or my Prijon Fly. So the larger volume of the Axiom is what I was looking for, in a shape as much like a Fly as I could find. The RPM has less volume. I think the Axiom is trying to straddle more of the direction of a creek boat for those who run things where less volume isn't deemed safe. But if I'm paddling something where I feel safe and want stern squirts and surfing, I can hardly beat paddling the Fly twenty pounds over it's sane weight ... why not have both? If I were you, I would get an RPM, then paddle both for a year, decide if you still want to get rid of the Axiom.
