Dave Hubbard (ACA instructor in swiftwater rescue, among other things) is teaching a two-day 16-hour Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course this weekend near Harpers Ferry. In addition to logging thousands of river trips both as a professional guide and private boater, Dave spent years working as an EMT...so he's not only certified to teach this material, but he knows from first-hand experience what works and what doesn't.
I've taken this course before and it's worth the time and expense. As Charlie Duffy has pointed out, most of us spend a lot of our time paddling in wilderness situations where "call 911 and wait" is simply not a viable option. All of us should carry a WFA certification in addition to a CPR certification: here's your chance.
This course will cost about $150 including all the materials. Contact me at rsk@rockandwater.net ASAP if you're interested and I'll connect you with Dave.
