A major challenge for many is Entrance Rapid is right at the beginning and is a long, continuous solid Class III rapid. The overall gradient isn't that bad and it is very easy to scout from shore or boat. You can easily slide a canoe past the crux part of the drop on river left. Swims tend to be nasty since it's shallow and long.

The next rapid - Cucumber is difficult for novices to scout. The rapid isn't all that difficult but this rapid and Rivers End seem to dish out more injuries than all the other rapids combined. Portaging this rapid would take some effort.

After these two, it's mostly clear sailing through the loop. Railroad is very easy to scout or portage on the right.

As for the rest of the Lower Yough, scouting and portaging are pretty straight-forward except possibly Rivers End (portage on the left).

The Lower Yough is a fantastic Intermediate Canoe run if you have the necessary skills.
