Lower Yough, beginning at Entrance Rapids....there looks to be a hiking trail more or less continuously along the river at river right. Whether that trail is used, or just pullovers, is it practical to expect a guy can get out, scout, and portage if he doesn't like the looks of things? Sunday may be a first time run, got some good canoe paddlers, but we haven't seen it before and have failed in getting a "person who knows" to go down with us.

If it's at all possible, resist the omnipresent paddler's urge to spray to the newbie. Stoney Creek release from holsopple down represents the hardest stretch I have done, and I understand the lower yough to be a bit testier. Serious constructive admonishments welcome if appropriate, but please if you can avoid the drama in your response, that would be swell! I'll liberally apply the portage in lieu of running something that flat outclasses my prospector and my abilities. Just need to know if it's possible/practical to pull over and scout and choose. At low August levels, all of us have done the Ottawa stretch that includes "iron ring," "butterfly," "upper no name," "lower no name," "black velvet," etc. NOT MCCOYS! I would not touch McCoys with a 13 foot pole- ha!
