Post a reply || Back to Paddle Prattle esday Night club(s) paddle: This week Violette's Lock (again)
Submitted by Mikey B on 28/Jul/2015 Message: Tomorrow is going to be a scorcher and this run has some shade. Plus, last week was marvelous. So Lets do it again! Violette's Lock is about 14 miles out River Rd. from the Beltway. You will pass Manor Stone Dr. (on right). Go about 1500 feet to Violette's Lock Rd., turn left, drive to the end and park. Class 2, very pretty, a couple play spots, lots of eddy turn and ferry practice places. Finish is about a mile of flat paddling back up the canal to your car. No shuttle. Meet at 6 PM. We will put in at 6:30.----------------.-----------For the past few decades there has been a club(s) trip on Wednesday evenings. Most often from Anglers to Lock 10 (class 2 +). We meet at Lock 10 (first one downstream of beltway)at 5:30 PM to set shuttle to Anglers, put in around 6 PM. Take off before dark. Sometimes we do the Violette's Lock loop. Toward August we switch to Little Falls (class 3 +)as the level drops. You don't have to belong to a club but we will try to talk you in to joining one. This is a perfect trip for winter pool session graduates. You need to be able to wet exit or take a bow rescue (ideally roll). All must wear PFD's and helmets, open boaters put it on in rapids. All boats must have flotation to facilitate recovery. There are usually experienced paddlers with us to teach and rescue you (and me). The only other thing is a willingness to take direction. I will post here on Tuesday PM or Wednesday to communicate the plan. Replies to this post
