I've got a few days off in mid-August to take my non-boating brother-in-law and four kids canoe camping. No moms.
I'm considering Paw Paw to Little Orleans, using the C&O campsites, but would like to hear some opinions on feasibility. Kids ages are 9, 6, 6, and 5, but two of the kids can be serious pansies. I don't want to scare anybody from ever wanting to go canoeing again (a class 2 rapid might actually do this), but I also don't want the younger kids to be stuck in a canoe for a couple long, hot days of lake-flat paddling. Preferably they'll splash around and swim just as much as we paddle for about 4 hours each day.
What water level, at which gauge, should I be looking for?
Is this stretch too long for this kind of trip? Seriously, I don't think we'll want to paddle more than 4 hours (in shifts separated by squirt gun wars) each day. Maybe start at Stickpile?
I know the campsites at Stickpile and Little Orleans, but have never been to Paw Paw. How do they compare? Is it accessible by car, as it would be our launch point?
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!
