we Paddled the Cheat Canyon yesterday for the first time this year. It was about 2500 CFS and dropping when we put on. We ran big nasty as usual heading toward the left to avoid the hole, but when we got to the bottom there was just a large breaking wave with smaller run out waves below it. The play boater in our group ferried onto the wave and surfed it a couple of times. I've run this rapid many times at similar levels and always encountered a large menacing hole. What gives?
