There was a perfectly serviceable wooden footbridge that had been installed by NPS -- later removed by them at the behest of the RR's lawyers. Also, there was a footpath downriver from the bridge about 30 yards and at least one more (possibly several) upriver from the bridge, all used for access by the locals. At different times, we used all routes, but parking became a problem because we were taking the parking spots on the RR side of the road that the locals claimed (understandably).
