Several years ago my newly-engaged nephew & his fiancee, who are from the NW, flew east for a visit. They contacted me about possibilities for arranging boats for a day of "East Coast Kayaking". Being a paddler but not a kayaker, I wasn't familiar with the local kayak scene, but I did learn that in their area options for renting/testing plastic boats are commonplace. I would guess that the DC situation is probably rather unique -- good boating in a very urban area with lots of short-term visitors & tourists. Evidently GA is more like the NW in that respect, and I suspect that both are more typical than DC.

Obviously I don't know who said what to whom, but I was shocked at the tone of the posting from Valley Mill. I'm from a multi-generation retail family, and I was brought up to understand that you don't talk to --or about -- customers that way, even if you think they are overreaching, and if for some reason tempers fray you certainly do not broadcast it to the community. Regardless of what was said -or not - Nathan's posting seems reasonable and civil, given that he is not a local and comes from a different community with different customs, and hardly deserves such a response.

To each his own opinion and choice, but Valley Mill would surely not be my recommendation (and if you want to send a nasty-gram to mee also -- go ahead..)
