You might want to scout around on foot without a boat on your back first to identify the best access point.

The upstream access involves a smallish carry but then a pretty steep up climb / down climb.

The downstream access doesn't have nearly the vertical element do it; however, sometimes it turns into a bit of a bushwhack to find the best path to/from the parking area.

When I'm looking to get a bit more of a workout out of a paddle, I put in at Carderock and, depending upon the level, attain to Anglers / S-Turn, and paddle / float back.
