on a tripper used for its intended purpose, won't need them for a long time if ever.
most dedicated whitewater boats end up needing skid plates and other patches from rock abuse. rigid material (kevlar etc) not much good because it cracks in my experience. Formed abs glued with goop or gflex a better solution. I mostly wait until a need develops (can fill dents and gouges to get an even surface) but have installed as preventive measure on boats know to be prone to damage in a particular area.
pedestal or saddle is a wear point, but less so than ends and chines. mine have been glued to hulls with waterproof contact cement for the most part and never caused any particular problem, but I have worked on other boats where wrong adhesive was used which were a mess.
plates which can be installed with structural cement or goop a possible alternative to drings on patches typically glued with vynabond which can damage hull if not used carefully.
have fun
