I think I was the only one who spoke with them. I had put my boat on the side of the road where we often park and walked across the street without it to the parking area by the treatment plant. At that point, 4 CSX police vehicles arrived, including 2 that seemed to be paddy wagons prepared to transport people. They looked at my boat and took pictures. After a while, I went over to pick up my boat. The officer in charge was rude and disrespectful. He told me I was trespassing. I told him he had no evidence that I was trespassing. I pointed to the no trespassing signs on the other side of my boat and told him that he had no case against me for trespass because I had no idea who owned the property on the side of the signs where my boat was. He said that the state's attorney and the judge would disagree with me because the railroad owns all property to the edge of the road. I told him that I would be glad to discuss the law of trespass with either of them. I invited him to come to court with me immediately to discuss the matter with a judge. He asked me for identification. I told him it was in my car. I went to my car to get a business card to give to him. He then said that he had placed me on notice that I was on CSX property, as required by state law, and that now I was clearly trespassing because I had reentered the property after he put me on notice. I told him that if he attempted to sell the theory that I was trespassing because I returned to give him my card at his request, the judge would laugh him out of the court room. I suggested that he have the state's attorney call me at my office to discuss the applicable law. I think he was frustrated because he was not able to arrest anyone for trespass during the couple of hours I watched him and his buddies. Eventually, he sent the other vehicles away and moved his vehicle to the area that is now blocked by a jersey barrier where we used to park on a dirt track next to the road. He was "hiding" there when I left, presumably trying to catch someone trespassing. He and I agreed that we are not fond of each other. I suppose it didn't help when I told him that I was in law enforcement before he was born.
