Post a reply || Back to Paddle Prattle DIDYMO and Gunpowder Falls
Submitted by JS on 19/Mar/2015 Message: Had a wonderful paddle @ Gunpowder Falls today. Please note that this creek has DIDYMO or rock snot in it. Didymo is a disgusting mess when the population builds up and there is no effective control. The organism is spread to new creeks on wet gear: neoprene booties, spray skirts, life jackets, felt-soled fishing boots, anything that can stay wet. An easy way to avoid spreading this problem to new watersheds is to dry your gear completely for at least 48 hours before paddling in a new creek. There is information about using bleach solution or saltwater to disinfect gear at the MD DNR website. THANKS Replies to this post
