My '76 Datsun PU driver side door could not be locked without the key, i.e., you could not push down the lock stem while the door was open.

You *could* go in from the passenger side and push the driver side door lock down if it was closed, but that took a bit of forethought to do.

Lots-o-vehicles had such common-sense features back in the day.

But common sense is so 20th Century!
