wetsuits have improved since the 70's

the exchange of water in the wetsuit should be minimal. As has the patterns they use mixing and matching materials in articulating/non-articulating regions. With a poorly fitting one though paddling out in the surf every wave that hits you head-on removes all that precious, cozy, pee tainted water you so carefully warmed. You can feel the water exchange from near body temp to ocean temp and it's not pleasant!
